Welcome to the SMASH Kitchen, where I celebrate the joy of cooking with wholesome, minimally processed ingredients that support your hormonal health and weight management goals.
Ingredients:
- 500g Good Quality Mince
- 80g Red Onion
- 100g Carrot
- 100g Courgette
- 50g Quinoa Flakes*
- 1 Egg
- 1 Teaspoon Mixed Herbs
- Salt & Pepper to taste
- 9g Coconut oil
You will need:
- Weighing scales
- Measuring spoons
- Sharp knife
- Chopping board
- Glass bowl
- Grater
- Frying pan
- Fork
- Cup
- Baking tray
Instructions:
- Turn the oven on to 180°
- Place mince into the glass bowl, break up with the fork. Season with the salt, pepper & the mixed herbs
- Finely slice the red onion and add to the mince
- Finely grate the carrot and courgette, add to the mince and mix all together.
- Crack the egg into the cup, whisk up and then pour into the mince mixture along with the quinoa flakes and combine together
- Using your hands, take a handful of mince and form the burger by squeezing it into a burger patty and repeat until you have made all the burgers**
- Heat the coconut oil in the frying pan and once hot add the burgers to the pan. Fry for 3 minutes on each side and then place onto the baking tray
- Place the baking tray in the oven and cook the burgers for a further 10 -12 minutes to finish the cooking process
- Serve with a Burger Bun and lots of salad.
Notes:
* if you can't get quinoa flakes, you can use porridge oats instead. The protein content will be a bit lower but the consistency of the burger will still be the same.
** if you have time, allow the burgers to rest for an hour in the fridge, they tend to hold together better when you do this.
When batch cooking/freezing, freeze flat on a tray and once frozen, place greaseproof paper between each one.
